So far I have attended many weddings as a destination wedding photographer in Slovenia and even more so abroad. Usually I look forward to these assignments and often I remember the ceremonies with fondness. I don’t know, maybe it’s the people, or the atmosphere at the wedding, or the picturesque landscape… It is probably a combination of all these things.
I was looking forward to this wedding. I traveled full of expectations to the Slovenian karst. On the day preceding the wedding I did one engagement photo session with the happy couple and on the wedding day the bride and the groom were completely relaxed and I had a great time working with them. The wedding was held in Villa Fabiani. The rooms where the groom and bride were preparing for the celebration had recently been renovated. The scent of fresh wood mixed with the smell of blooming lavender. The early sun’s rays that peeked around the house cast long shadows.
We took a winding road to the picturesque village of Štanjel. The trip lasted only a few minutes. There the civil wedding and the church wedding took place. Early in the afternoon after the wedding ceremony, the bride and the groom – now already a married couple – returned to Villa Fabiani. The submerging sun graced the guests with its warmth and hid from time to time behind the clouds. The wedding reception took place partly in the celebration hall and on the dance floor, and partly in the courtyard right in front of the villa. At midnight, the bride and groom cut the cake, out in the open under a mulberry tree.
It was a fairytale wedding and I hope I’ll visit the Slovenian karst again soon.
